PodCage: A Nicolas Cage Podcast

Nicolas Cage Podcast

Hello and welcome to the first of the Longest-Shortest-Day-Trilogy podcasts!

Tom and Sam set out to watch three movies and record three podcasts on the shortest day of the year and, seeing as this is the first, are pretty lenient to the week’s film It Could Happen to You.

If you ever wanted to hear two ignorant whiteboys yammer on about their theories of race and class politics in 90s rom-coms then this is the podcast for you!

***WARNING*** This podcast is recommended only for hardcore PodHeads and CageBros.

The toll of watching a Nicolas Cage film every week catches up as the inane mediocrity of Guarding Tess sees Tom and Sam at their lowest ebb. As such the first half of the show is fairly depressing and hard to listen to.

However if you stick around, new feature "Which Ex Prime Minister's Wife Would Win a Fight?" peps the boys back up and there's some fairly interesting chat in Any Other Bizz when Sam reveals he thinks Jar-Jar Binks was "misunderstood".

Hot on the heels of our last epidode, as we begin to ramp up for our Christmas specials. this episode we watched the not really that good Red Rock West.

Tom has a theory about how all Nicolas Cage films might exist in the same universe and Sam just wishes the movie could have had some cowboys in it.

We also interview Adam Burt, creator of the (still in development) Nicolas Cage dating app, Cage Match, about the favourite Nicolas Cage films of the perfect woman and how disguising yourself as John Travolta can help those with low self-esteem.

Deadfall (and this episode of PodCage) is, first and formost, about a man called Sausage and man called Fat Seinfeld. What makes these men tick? What is their relationship? And how does Nicolas Cage factor into the whole situation?

For answers to these questions and access to all your favourite regular features (including the return of the new segment True Colours), open this audio file and feast on the wholesome delights within.

We also speak to Alex McCown-Levy of The A.V. Club, who wrote an article entitled "Honoring the craziest Nicolas Cage performance almost no one's seen" about this very film, Deadfall.

(Fun Fact: This episode has the more hyphens in the title than any sentence in recorded history!)

This week we enjoyed the forgotten gem that is Amos and Andrew over a hearty breakfast. It has Samuel L Jackson hitting a racist policeman with a frying pan!

If you aren't that bothered to listen to the episode or watch the film you can enjoy the whole story through the medium of the theme tune courtesy of Sir Mix-a-Lot https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4VUgUccsX8g

This week we watch the actually quite funny 90s rom-com, 'Honeymoon in Vegas'. Come with us on the journey to learn that no matter how much money you have, it's impossible to steal the wife of a skydiving neon-Elvis... It'll make sense once you listen to the episode...

Advance warning and apologies that the audio quality is pretty shoddy this week. Blame Sam, he's the sound guy.

This erotic thriller has everything you could want from a motion picture - dodgy facial hair, Judge Reinhold, sex, Judge Reinhold with dodgy facial hair, a young Steve Buscemi, Nicolas Cage doing magic, leather trousers briefly, a speedboat and Judge Reinhold and Nic Cage passive aggressive dancing together.

Lots to chew through this week like the question of whether the aspect ratio was altered to hide famous wang and how can someone drown when they can swim?

We also talk about the Bristol Post article we featured in back in August without knowing about it and there is finally a Nic Cage News jingle but it's not what you were thinking...

It's another actually worthwhile film this week as Sam and Tom watch David Lynch's 'Wild at Heart'. And because they couldn't critique a bread roll they fall back on cheap innuendo and a surprising amount of swearing (seriously, not suitable for listening around newborns).

For Fans Of: Nicolas Cage, Snakeskin Jackets, Fire, Painting Your Whole Face in Lipstick, Willem Dafoe/Pantyhose Fetishism.

This week Tom and Sam watch Tempo di Uccidere (Time to Kill), an Italian-produced, English-speaking, Italian-dubbed, English subtitled film... imagine that.

There's an awful lot of tension in the room as Sam regresses to about 4 years old. We have to awkwardly tip-toe around the second rape in as many weeks. And in the absence of actually really understanding what had happened in the film we spend quite a long time discussing Hannibal.
